In 2018, Norway's new PV installed capacity was 23.5MW, an increase of 29% year-on-year. As of the end of December, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in Norway reached approximately 68MW. Compared with other European markets, the installed capacity of newly installed PV in Norway is not much, but compared with itself, the installed capacity of PV in 2018 is a new high.

According to statistics released by Multiconsult, by the end of December 2018, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in Norway reached 68MW. The newly installed photovoltaic system in 2018 was 23.5 MW, and in 2017 it was 18.2 MW, an increase of 29% over the same period last year. In 2016, the new PV installed capacity was 11 MW, but in that year, the market had the highest annual growth rate of -366%.

Relevant personnel said that the main reason for the increase was that the installation cost of photovoltaic systems was gradually decreasing, the price of electricity was gradually rising, and people began to pay more attention to solar energy. “More and more companies are incorporating solar energy into their portfolios. In this way, solar energy, together with hydropower and district heating, is becoming a more integrated part of the energy mix.”

Norway is supporting rooftop solar energy through the “Plus Customer” program, which requires utilities to purchase electricity from PV system operators.
